GIRLS GO ROBOTIC THIS SUMMER @ GSCBC!Fifteen Girl Scouts with a special interest in math, technology and engineering, participated in the grant-funded Lockheed Martin Foundation "Girls Go Robotic" summer science camp held at the Girl Scout Council of Bergen County Service Center. The week-long program had girls building and programming robots with the Lego Robotic Mindstorms Invention System. The conclusion of the program was a field trip to the George Washington Bridge where they got a behind-the-scenes tour. This experience was made possible by the kindness of the Resident Engineer’s Office of the Port Authority for New York and New Jersey. Aside from learning about the history of the bridge and how the bridge is maintained today, the girls learned so much about themselves. They learned teamwork, problem solving skills and how to set career goals. Most of all, the girls learned, from Andrea Bocker, the woman engineer and female role model heading the tour, that there is nothing a woman can’t do! Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place!
