About Us
Former National Council President, Elinor Ferdon and scouts exploring the Internet in our computer lab. Each year, the Girl Scout Council of Bergen County, working in partnership with the community, opens doors for more than 13,000 girl members in 61 Bergen County towns. Girls are encouraged to achieve their potential by discovering and building talents and interests that lead them to brighter futures. For older girls, the Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement in Girl Scouting. It symbolizes a special commitment in the areas of leadership, community service, career planning and personal development in the community, at home and in school activities. Girl Scouts 11-17 can experience in-depth skill training, by applying for "Wider Opportunities," exciting national and international adventures, that give girls a chance to travel, make new friends, and sample a career. Wider Opportunities provide "never-to-be-forgotten" experiences in personal and intellectual growth. The result of community support from agencies, businesses, volunteers and parents is quality programming for today's girls and young women who will be tomorrow's leaders, working for a peaceful and just society, opening doors for others in Bergen County and the world in which we live. ![]() Elinor Ferdon Former GSCBC Pres. Former GSUSA Pres. "Girl Scouting is for all girls! The sound, values-based program, carefully designed for each age group, helps girls widen their group of friends and develop leadership skills which will serve them well all through their life. The Girl Scouts provide limitless possibilities for every girl to be her best." - Elinor Ferdon
Being a Girl Scout Girl Guide in Bermuda helped me to really become aware of my surroundings and made me realize the
importance of community involvement, more than I ordinarily would have. No doubt, that is what led me to go into the
career of broadcasting in the Community Affairs Department, where I am able to make a difference in the New York,
New Jersey and Connecticut area."
"The spirit of team cooperation, as offered by my involvement with the Girl Scouts, has led me down various significant
paths in my personal life and career. Successful leaders are determined by action rather than position. I am grateful
for my experiences with the Girl Scouts which are still with me today as Undersheriff of Bergen County." Girl Scout Council of Bergen County Click here to view our 2006 Annual Report.
