Beautiful Lake Metaque!

Summer Fun at the Girl Scout Service Center in Paramus!

Camp Glen Spey is owned and operated by the Girl Scout Council of Bergen County. Glen Spey's six hundred acres are located approximately two hours from Paramus, 90 minutes away from Riverdale and 30 minutes from Port Jervis, New York. The camp offers beautiful hiking trails, a variety of plants and wildlife, a large playfield and a seventy-acre heart-shaped lake.

The campsite has tent units on raised platforms, three lodges, and a central meeting and dining room called Ferdon Hall. The facilities have private flush toilets and hot showers. Three covered pavilions are available for cooking and dining use. Across the lake is the SATURN building where science programs are conducted. The Sports Field is spacious and will be the site of sport activities, fitness, and physical challenges. At the lakefront, supervised swim times are open to units, as well as the use of the rowboats, funyaks, canoes, and pedal boats.

Throughout the camp week, girls discover new things within a safe and wholesome environment. They learn independence and how to get along with others and at the same time, they become contributing members of the camp community.

The programs are well supervised and take advantage of the natural elements found at Camp Glen Spey. Some camper units leave the campgrounds to experience a specialty activity, such as a trip to horseback riding stables or the climbing wall.

Come and enjoy this beautiful, pristine setting.

For the past 38 years, the health and safety of the girls at Camp Glen Spey are our primary concern. The American Camping Association accredits the property, buildings, amenities, food service and program. Additionally we are in accordance with standards set by the New York State Department of Health and Girl Scouts of the USA.

Staff members have gone through an extensive training program and are highly motivated to provide a quality camping experience for all girls. The counselors have first aid certifications and waterfront personnel are certified lifeguards. The counselors have proven characteristics of maturity and patience. Reference checks and personal interviews are a part of the selection process.

Girl Scouts will inspire and empower your daughter on her journey of discovery and leadership in a physically and emotionally safe, girl-only environment

Our camp fee covers all direct services the camper receives during her stay at resident camp. These include: housing, food, program fees, supplies, health and accident insurance and transportation to and from camp.

The summer camp experience begins on the bus. Round-trip transportation is included in the camp fee. Charter buses will depart/return from the Garden State Plaza in Paramus.

Camp Living
Camper housing assignments are made based on program, level, and availability. The majority of campers live in tents set on platforms off the ground. Modern bathroom and shower facilities are nearby. Swing Into Camp, Explore S'more, Cook It Up, and Night Owls units stay in troop houses; however, the unit of girls may take a vote and sleep in a neighboring tent unit or under the stars.

Camp Buddy
Girls like to make new friends at camp, but if they wish to be with a particular friend, we can only accept one buddy per registration. To register as buddies, the girls must attend the same session and the same program. List each other’s name on the registration form in “try to place with” line.

Girls With Special Needs
Girls having special health care or have a behavioral, mental or physical disabilities are asked contact Joann Sweeney prior to registering for camp. At that time we will discuss the program and the nature of her needs. It can then be determined if the camp can provide the proper support, supervision and necessary accommodations for your daughter to have a safe and fulfilling camping experience.

Not Currently Registered Girl Scout
An additional fee of $10 will be charged for a girl not currently registered as a Girl Scout. She will become a member of the world's largest all-girl membership organization. If she would like to continue in Girl Scouting year-round, please contact our Membership Department.
