GSBC Funding Message

It costs $161 to provide year-round programs and services per girl/per year in Girl Scouting.

We currently serve one out of every four available girls overall.

Over 13,500 girls in 61 towns (or 24% of all girls in grades K-12) participated in Girl Scouts in 2003.

Girl Scouts is the world’s preeminent organization dedicated solely to girls – all girls – where in an accepting and nurturing environment, girls build character and skills for success in the real world.

In partnership with committed adults, girls develop qualities that will serve them all their lives – like strong values, social conscience and conviction about their own potential and self-worth.

In Girl Scouts, girls discover the fun, friendship and power of girls together.

74% of our expenses directly support programs for girls. (15% support general management, 7% fundraising and 4% public relations). From 2003 Annual Report

About 60% of our revenue is generated by product sales (cookies and QSP). We need to decrease dependency on girl-generated income to 50% which is standard and rely on the generosity of individual donors, local corporations and foundations to fund the remaining 50% that we need to serve girls and support volunteers.

We offer girls a place to belong, a safe all-girl environment, values, leadership, team experience, skills, service, recognition, and positive adult role models.

Camp Glen Spey fees plus outside group rental covered only 44% of expenses in 2003. We rely on other revenue to keep fees affordable.

GSCBC provides over 100 supplemental programs on various areas of interest including community service, science, computers, self-improvement, health & fitness, camping, and careers. New programs for girls include Studio 2B for the 11 – 17 year old, Girls Go Tech, Health Ambassadors, uniquely ME! in partnership with Unilever Corporation, and environmental workshops.
